The Power of the Allergy Trio – Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint

If you are an allergy sufferer, symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and headaches are all too common. Some friends just deal with the symptoms and others, like me, go to the doctor and try every over-the-counter and prescription medication available. One thing in common is that we are miserable!

lemonlavenderpeppAfter years of suffering I started looking for an alternative allergy solution, because traditional prescription medications seemed unreliable. At times, they worked temporarily at best, had negative side effects and even exasperated the problem on an occasion or two.

At last I was introduced to doTERRA® essential oils and soon learned that the allergy trio of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint is an effective solution for respiratory and immune support. A popular method of application is with a roller bottle filled with 5-10 drops each of Lemon, Peppermint and Lavender essential oils and then topped off with fractionated coconut oil. I found it’s a convenient way to take in your purse or leave on your bedside table. There’s nothing to measure; it’s just ready to use. It’s so easy that my kids can even apply their own essential oil blend each night!

Applying it to the bottom of the feet is an easy and effective technique, but you can ingest it, inhale it’s aroma properties or place most anywhere on the skin. Try to remember. You really can’t do this incorrectly. What’s also nice is you can determine your own usage method and schedule that works for your family. For example, you might get your Lemon essential oil by drinking it in your daily water. You might get your Peppermint essential oil during mid-day slump by rubbing a drop or two in your hands and inhaling it’s minty fresh aroma for an instant pick-me-up, and you might get your Lavender essential oil in your evening bath as a way to relax and ensure a restful sleep. There’s no ONE way to do this!

In an acute allergy case, I might make what is called an “allergy bomb” with a small juice glass filled with water and 2 drops each of Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint essential oils. Melaleuca and Frankincense can also be added, especially if you are feeling a possible infection. Let’s just say it’s not the best tasting drink, but it’s an easy way to intake the oils quickly and effectively.

With doTERRA® essential oils and using the allergy trio blend, I have been able to cut my allergy related prescription and over-the-counter medications by 90%. It’s natural, safe and cost effective with no side effects. Plus, it works!

Head Lice Prevention Can Be Easy With Essential Oils

Posted on Updated on

No More Head Lice

In the past head lice hit our home and after 10 chemical shampoo treatments, several loads of laundry, many hours of cleaning and spending at least $450.00, I vowed this would never happen again.

From a friend, I learned there are ways to prevent head lice by using products on the hair before an infestation begins. These products contain herbs like Rosemary and Peppermint to help prevent head lice and it sounded like a grand idea to me, so I did a little research.

Essential Oils to Use

Different sources indicate a number of essential oils for the prevention and treatment of head lice. Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lemon, Thyme, Lavender and Geranium seem to be the most mentioned. It gets confusing when a number of essential oils are mentioned for one job. Which one should I use? What if I don’t have them all?

Don’t sweat it. My opinion is that any of these would be perfectly acceptable as a preventive method for head lice. First, use oils that you already have on your counter at home and if you only have one or two, don’t worry. Secondly, smell the oils and use what you like or more importantly what your kids like. If you have Geranium but your daughter can’t stand the smell, then don’t bother with it.

There is one essential oil that I would definitely include and that would be Melaleuca or Tea Tree oil. A fairly recent study on pubmed.gov shows the use of Melaleuca and its effectiveness on head lice.  Therefore, I’d start there.

Steps to Head Lice Prevention

  • Place a couple of drops of Melaleuca essential oil in your kids’ shampoo.
  • Place a couple of drops of essential oil on your kids’ feet. Yes. I did say the feet. It only takes 30 seconds for an essential oil to get through the body, so by placing it on the feet your kids will be wearing the scent. It’s best to dilute an essential oil when applying topically especially on children. You can use fractionated coconut oil or another type of carrier oil. Dilute 1 drop of essential oil: 3 drops of carrier oil.
  • If your child has long hair, wear it up tightly.  If your child has short hair, keep it short.  This will give lice less opportunity to make your child’s scalp it’s home.
  • Thirdly, get a metal or glass spray bottle and spray your child’s hair in the morning. You can find these at health food stores or order online from www.aromatools.com. My favorite is taking a couple of drops of Melaleuca and Lavender essential oils and filling the rest with water. Spray your children’s clothes, backpacks, hairbrushes, pillows, bedding, pillow, stuffed animals, etc.
  • Lastly, make a second spray bottle for your car. Spray car interior and car seats with the Melaleuca and Lavender blend. You might want to make a different mix for the car and add a little Eucalyptus oil for its clean lively scent.

Does sinus pressure and pain have you down? Learn about a solution.

Finally a Relief for Sinus Pressure

Yes, it’s that time of year when many folks are struck with miserable head colds and congestion. Is it an allergy? Is it a sinus infection? It just hurts and if you see a Doctor chances are she might not be sure either.

If you are suffering from seasonal allergies and sinus pressure and pain, you are not alone. I’ve spent many years suffering from rhinitis and sinusitis with no real explanation. My symptoms became worse shortly after moving to Corpus Christi, TX, and after many failed attempts at pharmaceutical pills, sprays and even surgery, I was desperate for a solution. This is how I found the life changing power of essential oils.

One night I searched the Internet for at-home solutions for sinus pressure and it was suggested to try Eucalyptus oil. My immediate thoughts were how am I going to find Eucalyptus oil? Then I remembered my friend’s neighbor who sold dōTERRA® essential oils and I texted her the next morning.

She took me in like a lost puppy and lovingly showed me her oils. It was nice to try a couple that she suggested for sinus and allergy sufferers and it seemed that Peppermint and Eucalyptus essential oils were my favorite. I took home samples and used both relentlessly until my order arrived. Within a week or so my headaches and sinus pain and pressure lessened and I soon became a believer in essential oils. Now, Eucalyptus is one of my staples during bath time, just a few drops and the fragrance helps open my sinuses. Peppermint acts as an expectorant and provides relief from sinusitis.  It’s my “go-to” oil for severe sinus pressure and pain. It’s easy to dab some on my temples and sinus pressure areas for quick soothing relief.

I no longer use the decongestant, stopped one of my allergy pills and only occasionally take my last prescription allergy pill.  I can breathe!  It’s an amazing feeling not taking so many pills AND actually getting relief.  Thank you, dōTERRA® essential oils.
